Big weekend on the way
It is such a big and long weekend (Townsville Show Day holiday is Monday) coming up on and near Magnetic Island that we at magnetictimes.com thought that a quick update from our What's On would help make sure none of our readers miss out on any of the exciting things to do.
Friday 30 June This is your last chance to see Marie Wanecke's, The Italian Job exhibition of paintings from her recent visit to Italy at Alla Capri Stage Door Ristorante Italiano, Hayles Avenue Arcadia.

5pm: Twin Cities Show opens tonight at Townsville Showgrounds.
6-8pm: Cairns Youth Chamber Orchestra will be performing a free concert at Magnetic International Resort at MacArthurs Restaurant. But if you want to stay for a delicious dinner then book your table now (dinner bookings essential) for a fabulous and unique night of entertainment Ph: 4778 5200 (read story here).
8pm: The world class Australian Festival of Chamber Music, based in Townsville, begins tonight at the Civic Theatre. The Festival features a 10-day program of 80 different works performed by the world's best artists, including 20 premiere presentations, in venues ranging from theatres and cathedrals to art galleries, parks and even Orpheus Island. Held from June 30 to July 9, the AFCM is the largest festival dedicated to chamber music in Australia.

Saturday 1 July 10am: Magnetic Island artist Jenny Mulcahy's latest exhibition Sensing the Silence: Mary Kathleen opens to the public at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery, Flinders Mall, Townsville. Focusing on the now defunct uranium mine, Mary Kathleen, this exhibition creates an awareness of the energy that is unique to a particular place in time. The works explore the silence that is integral to the landscape and the primal energy of the earth. Perc Tucker Gallery is open from 10am - 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am - 2pm Saturdays and Sundays.
8pm: Magnetic Island Film Society presents Good Night, and Good Luck. 2005 USA English 93 minutes Drama, rated PG. Please note venue change - now on at the International Resort, Mandalay Avenue Nelly Bay. Starts 8pm. Good Night, and Good Luck was set during the early days of broadcast journalism in the USA in the 1950s and chronicles the real-life conflict between television newsman Edward Murrow and the anti-communist witch hunter Senator Joseph McCarthy. Sunday 2 July 12pm - 4pm: Sunferries, Meet the Players Day with the Toyota Cowboys at the Island Tavern (formerly Arkies). You could win an autographed jersey when the First Grade and Young Guns teams attend this Island event which includes an BBQ, Band and a special Community Market. Sunferries will also be offering special packages from Townsville including return ferry transfers, bus transfers, and a BBQ lunch + plus entertainment, prize giveaways etc. for $29 adults $17 children $84 family (2 ad + 2 kids). This should prove to be a great family day out to meet the teams and have a lot of community fun.
