August 10th 2006 Nudist graffiti blights Balding Dear Editor, On a recent trip home to the island - I went to spend a tranquil day at Balding Bay with friends and found the rocks painted with the graffiti as shown in the attached photos. Re: Nudist graffitti sign. Perhaps what is needed is official sanctioning of this activity. Then there would be no need for graffitti? What do you reckon?

Nudist bathing is unofficially sanctioned at Rocky Bay and Balding Bay already. However seeing the rock above Rocky Bay spray painted as "NUDIST BEACH" several months ago, and now Balding Bays trash disapoints me. As a worker in the tourism area I cop enough flak over certain local men who go to Balding and harass tourists. I would like to see some subtlety in nudism and respect for tourists who support this Islands Economy. Oh and If you are one of 2 Horseshoe Bay men who like to run around naked and harass tourists at Balding Bay, stop now and behave responsibly.

My guess is that what looks like a "NO DIVING " most likely came from an illconceived sign idea by a tourist operater,possibly concerned by backpackers " ROCK JUMPING "...in more ways tha one! I operated a charter boat out of Horseshoe Bay over 10 years ago ,when an operator of a certain boat encouraged Bakpackers to "Rock Jump " even advertising it on his broucher,unfortunetly it was only safe at high tide .At low tide it was more lke a Claytons Bungy Jump !Ouch and broke thier colarbone as well as the charter operation. Look after Maggie and she will look after you,quote by the late Mayor of Magnetic Gerry Kearns a true Gentle man,he would have litter ly got to the "bottom of it -quick smart! I think it is wonderful there are traditional nude beaches on your island. It is disappointing to hear about graffiti. As a nudist activist myself I always take it upon myself to pick up some trash if found on any nude beach I go to. As for the males complained about above, having a camera ready and photographing them usually discourages future inappropriate behavior.
