In response to: Art review: Mary Kathleen - Sensing the silence
So timely, this exhibition about Mary Kathleen and the complex interplay of symbols and meanings implicit in this pivotal issue now facing us in the light of global warming. I particularly like the Green Arch 2- simultaenously, the colour of greed and new growth and then there is the flow of the arch as we follow its inevitable curve down to the 'Fall' of embracing uranium's deadly lure.
By co-incidence,the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) is conducting the Sir George Fisher lecture on Friday the 15th of September on the topic of Uranium Mining.
Last year the institute changed the format from a single eminent speaker to a panel discussion and are continuing with this.
Peter Lindsay MP will speak for the federal government and John Reynolds, a former director of WMC (Western Mining Corp) who was involved with developing Olympic Dam and who is in favour of uranium mining.
The Townsville Greens have been asked to present the environmental perspective. Anyone who would like to talk to me about this topic prior to the evening is very welcome to contact me at home on 47290226 AH.
