Season over for Magpies
Congratulations to the U13's Maggie Magpies AFL Team coached by Peter Young for putting up a hard but unsuccessful fight in a low scoring Preliminary Final against the Tigers Black Team. According to proud supporter and spokesperson Lynne Marie James, "Both teams played serious finals football and we had a very disappointing loss of only 4 points. Scores: 3.2:20 to 3.6:24. Donal Glavin-Quane kicked our 3 goals".
"There has been noticeable skill improvement in our younger and less experienced players and consolidation of skills for the whole team. Well done to everyone for a great year of football. We are proud of the efforts of all players, coaches & parents as it is very difficult to win two Premierships in a row, and all are better for the experience," said Lynne Marie.
The Premiership Cup is on display at Arcadia News for the rest of this week,
This is the first year since the team began six years ago that they have fielded three teams in the competition.
"Maybe next year we will have an U15's team and be able to field four teams from our tiny little island," says Lynne Marie. This would be unique in that all the teams come from this one community and mostly from our tiny school of 177 students plus a few high schoolers.
In Townsville there are no zones and Townsville players can join whichever team they wish.
