Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week will once again host a first class yachting regatta sailed off the waters of Cleveland and Nelly Bay. The event will run from Friday 5th September through Tuesday 9th of September 2008 with four days of racing including passage, buoy course and around the Island races.

Sunferries are again the naming sponsor and Sunferries' Sales and Marketing Manager, Julie Caspani says this is a great way to present Magnetic Island to an international market. "We are really excited to see it grow into a signature event for the region and become a major regatta on the international sailing calendar."

Registration for the event officially opened last week and it is anticipated that participant numbers will top last years' inaugural event.

According to Sunferries, there has been interest felt from the New Zealand yachting community with the possibility of a New Zealand versus Australia competition developing. Yacht entrant numbers are expected to top 40 boats for the second year of operation.

Spectators will be treated to prime viewing seats aboard the Sunferries' spectator boat which will operate on the Saturday and Sunday of the regatta. It is intended to be a great family day out with commentary on the race and onboard activities and prize giveaways.

The social card heats up this year with event organisers having secured the talents of the Wolverines. Audiences should expect a unique blend of country rock music as the Wolverines deliver their tongue-in-cheek lyrics. They will perform at the three major functions of Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week 2008.
