RSL says thanks
In a letter to Magnetic Times Magnetic Island RSL President Geoff Barlow thanks the Magnetic Island community for their support during ANZAC Day and throughout the year. The Magnetic Island RSL Sub Branch would like to thank the community for its support, particularly for ANZAC Day but generally for its support throughout the year.
As well as providing support where possible to servicemen and women and their families, the RSL * Provides the facility and subsidises insurance for Markets. * Manage and co-ordinates the Anzac Day and Remembrance Day services. * Sponsors a number of community organisations such as Community Care, Naval Cadets, and the Magnetic Island State School and from time to time makes financial donations to charities such as Red Cross, and The Children’s Cancer fund, and * Makes the hall available for private and public functions
Like other small Sub Branches throughout Queensland, Magnetic Island has to stand on it’s own in raising funds to keep the Sub Branch and facilities operational.
Support from local businesses also goes a long way into keeping the Magnetic Island RSL Sub Branch alive.
Committee members receive no wages or salary, and therefore voluntary involvement in the RSL is critical to its survival.
Without support from all the volunteers, and there are many, the sub-branch would by necessity, close.
We are indebted to your support.
Geoff Barlow President Magnetic Island Return Services League Sub-Branch
