It's our fete – can you help?
The biennial Magnetic Island State School Fete will be held on Saturday 22nd August. Commencing, this year, at 2pm and continuing until 6pm, this colourful and lively event is always well supported by local and Townsville businesses and is a fantastic day for the entire family. The organisers have set themselves a huge fundraising target of $15,000 that will be put to great use supplying equipment for an arts hub providing the means for Magnetic Island's students to explore their creative side.
Donations and sponsorship have been flooding in ensuring all who attend will have the chance to win some fantastic prizes. Stalls will include some past favourites such as Coin Toss, Darts, Plants, Books, Lucky Wine, Prize Wheel, Show Bags, Lolly Shop, Cakes, Sweets & Preserves, Trash & Treasure, Creative Cookies, Marguerites & Manicures, AFL Hand Ball Competition, 2nd Hand Clothes & Toys, Crafts, Harley Rides, and Relaxation Tent.
This year will also see a couple of new stalls including an entire corner for kids including science, face painting, ghost tunnel, mini golf, obstacle course, tabloid sports and pony rides courtesy of Horseshoe Bay Ranch. A major attraction this year will be the Melville’s Animal Farm generously sponsored by Solar City.
Face painting is always a big hit
As the fundraising focus is on the arts, students have been encouraged to create a piece of artwork for judging by some of the Island's resident artists, this work will be on display throughout the afternoon for public viewing.
State Member for Townsville Mandy Johnstone will officiate at the opening and take the opportunity to talk to locals and visitors on the island.
The entertainment lineup is also impressive with The MISS Instrumental Group, Magnetic Island Muso’s Club, Magnetic's famous Aquapella Choir and a demonstration by South Pacific Taekwondo all set to entertain.
Food will be available throughout thanks to the Rotary Café and all the favourites including hamburgers and the kiddies' sausages on bread will be served. Soft drinks, chips and a licensed bar will also be available throughout the afternoon.
Patrons purchasing alcohol will also be issued with a stamp enabling them to receive a free ride home - compliments of the Magnetic Island Bus Service.
To help make the fete a success the fete committee would love the community to see if they have any items they could donate for the stalls. Items such as preloved clothes, toys, books, cd’s, games, wine, plants, preserves & crafts or, alternatively, if you have a pop up marquee which they can borrow for the day, please feel free to contact Janine (number below) to arrange for a pickup. Smaller items can be dropped at the school office.
