Cairns Chamber Ensemble to visit this weekend
This weekend will mark the fourth visit to Magnetic Island of what used to be called the Cairns Youth Chamber Orchestra but now, due to some of its 18 members being up to 30 years of age, are called the Cairns Chamber Ensemble.Margery Duffy OAM, the group's Musical Director, describes the sound as “bright and entertaining music,” adding, “The group are returning to play a range of popular numbers from light classics, show and movie themes and even the Skippy theme music.” But, for a gig at Le Paradis French restaurant in Nelly Bay, the music will be “all French”.
The group has been supported by the Magnetic Island Rotary Club over a number of years and this is no exception.
“These players are the most (musically) advanced members of the orchestra” says Margery who is proud that past members have gone on to musical carers around the world," says Margery.
Margery loves to bring the group to Magnetic as one of their annual tours. “Rotary support us and we like Magnetic Island.” she said.
Instruments played by the Ensemble include: violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, keyboard, percussion
To support MI Rotary, the Ensemble will be performing a free concert at the Trash and Treasure sale in the Arcadia Hotel carpark at 9.30am Saturday 3rd Oct.
Other places to see and hear them over the weekend include: Sat. 3 Oct. Nelly Bay -- Le Paradis 12.30pm lunch music. Sat. 3 Oct. Nelly Bay --International Resort (All Seasons) 6.30pm dinner music. Sun.4 Oct. Horseshoe Bay -- Barefoot Gallery 11.30am early lunch music.
