$500 for a group with a sustainable purpose
Magnetic Island community groups with an interest in environmental sustainability can go in the running for a Sunferries' Christmas gift of $500 towards a sustainable initiative. In a bid to reduce paper wastage, Sunferries will send electronic Christmas greetings and will use the money saved on cards and postage to give a gift of goods or services up to the value of $500 to an organisation or initiative that promotes environmental sustainability on Magnetic Island.
Sunferries ran the initiative last Christmas, with Magnetic Island Fauna Carers Organisation (MIFCO) the lucky beneficiary. The not for profit group’s aging refrigerator was replaced with a new energy efficient one to store food and medicine required for the care of injured and orphaned wildlife.
General Manager Darin McDonald said the company was pleased to have been able to give such a great gift to MIFCO for Christmas 2008 and was looking forward to playing Santa once again this year.
“Our team got a buzz out of donating the fridge, as it truly was a gift that keeps on giving to MIFCO and the wildlife they care for” he said.
“Our challenge for the Sunferries Christmas Gift 2009 will be narrowing down the worthy causes to just one”.
To be considered for the Sunferries Christmas Gift, complete and submit an application by Monday 16 November. Application forms are available from www.sunferries.com.au or Sunferries Travel in Nelly Bay or Breakwater Terminals and the successful applicant will be announced 1 December.
