Three alleged assaults on Island since Saturday
A Magnetic Island man in his 60s was allegedly assaulted early on Tuesday morning at Picnic Bay by at least one other local man who was under 20 years old. But this was just one of three different assault investigations being conducted by Magnetic Island Police since last Friday night. A young man has been charged with alleged assault occasioning bodily harm, two charges of willful damage, trespass and public nuisance over the incident. According to MI Police Constable Ben Costello, he was part of a group. The victim suffered head and other injuries and was taken to Townsville Hospital s a result.
Constable Ben Costello described the policing this week as his, “busiest since working on the Island.”
The other two alleged assaults include one in Picnic Bay from Saturday and another in Arcadia on Monday. Police are presently continuing their investigations.
Constable Costello told Magnetic Times that an alleged suspect, possibly responsible for both assaults, had been identified but police were still taking statements. “We are hoping the investigation will be finalised by the end of this week,” he said.
