Base raise $30,000 for Haiti
It took a while for the tally to come in but Base Backpackers have now reported that following their Haiti fundraising night held on Magnetic Island on January 21, they raised $30,571 across Australia and New Zealand.Base Backpackers ran the event simultaneously across all 12 of their sites (Australia/NZ), and through the local event Base Magnetic Island raised in excess of $2500.
Magnetic's Base Bar Manager, Will Gregg, said it was, "A wonderful contribution made possible from the kind donations from all over the island, and remarkable generosity of those who attended the night." "It was a fun and entertaining evening, with Base's regular trivia spectacular mixed with prize giveaways and auctions all night. Local heart throb John Buck was sold for tidy sum, while team Foodworks seemed to clean up the majority of raffle prizes!
Lots of laughs at the Foodworks table
"A special mention has to go out to team Rotary who put in gutsy karaoke efforts to try and bring home the quiz champions title!" Will Gregg was also keen to acknowledge that special thanks should go out to the sponsors who made it possible; Foodworks, Reef Safari, Reef HQ, Sunferries, Fishin' and Fuelin', Peppers, Endota Spa, Hairport, Magnetic Island Boat Tours, Providence, Topless Car Rentals, Magnetic Island Bike Hire, All Seasons Resort, Restaurant Paradis, Bacardi Lion, Lion Nathan and Suntory.
