Magnetic Island Art Markets On Again

Face painter Sylvia Hayes at work On Saturday 2 July (10 - 3pm), Magnetic Island Artists are holding their 2nd Art Market for 2011 at the hotel end of the Esplanade in Picnic Bay. This follows on from the outstanding success of their last Art Market in April.

The open-air art markets feature stalls by local artists and craft-makers. You can find original oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings, framed and unframed photographs, hand-made jewellery, pottery, clothing and much more.

Magnetic Island is a hotspot for artists, writers, musicians and other creative types. The markets are held quarterly, in each school holiday period. It is a great opportunity for families to enjoy an inexpensive day out in the beautiful atmosphere of Picnic Bay. There will be demonstrations and activities for children and adults. A raffle will be held with original local artwork as prizes.

Picnic Bay is recovering from the stress of the recent cyclone, which battered the iconic jetty, but there is still plenty to do there. There are cafes and a pub, a few little shops, the Surf Lifesaving Clubhouse and also the Magnetic Island History and Craft Centre to explore. Of course, it is always a beautiful place to have a picnic!

Anyone coming over from the mainland on the passenger ferry can catch a bus from the terminal which takes you straight to Picnic Bay in a few minutes. It’s as easy as that.
