Outpouring of support from community

Clearly we had way better on Magnetic Island than the poor tornado hit residents of Vincent and nearby Townsville suburbs and it looks like the community is reaching out to help those poor people.

Townsville Local Disaster Management Group Deputy chairman, Cr Dale Last, said the outpouring of support was fantastic and donations could be directed to St Vincent De Paul.

“The Townsville community always pulls together in times of need to support their fellow residents and Vinnies have put their hand up to accept donations for storm affect residents,” Cr Last said.

“The priority for us is to ensure those affected have accommodation and food over the coming days while assessments are carried out.

“The Department of Communities are working on the ground with those affected to determine their needs.

“Once needs have been identified the community will be able to provide items which are most required.

“We have had a number of donations already and I would like to thank those people who have offered support.

“There are many people that will require assistance over the coming days and weeks and I would like to thank those people who have offered support to our community members.”

Donations can be dropped at the St Vincent De Paul centre located at 22-26 Echlin Street, West End.

To register to make a donation or if you are an affected resident who requires donation assistance please phone Vinnies on 4772 0984.
