Vale Howard Abbott
Howard Lockyer Abbott was born at Adelaide, South Australia in 1926. After an academic career in Theology, Sociology and Community Development Howard retired to North Queensland with his wife Alison. At first in Mackay, Howard worked to establish the University of the Third Age and later in the Cairns region, most recently Yorkeys Knob, Howard continued his keen interest in Music, Australian Literature and politics.
Howard’s studies took the family to the USA in the 1960s – the first of many overseas journeys for both study and leisure.
Just over three years ago Howard and Alison moved to Magnetic Island to be nearer their daughter Lis. Howard’s genuine interest in people of all walks of life, his sensitivity and humour made him a respected and valued friend.
Howard died on Monday, 30th July at Nelly Bay. The family would like to thank Ambulance and Emergency Services officers and the Clinic Doctor and staff for their kindness and professionalism.
Alison Abbott along with Rosemary, David and Lis cordially invite those who knew Howard and would like to celebrate his life to join them at 13 Winifred St, Nelly Bay this Sunday, 5th August after 2pm.
Please bring a plate and memories to share.
