We would like our children of Magnetic Island to have as much choice as possible when it comes to sport. Starting a Junior AFL club has enabled a greater range of team sport for our children to choose from. AFL is a great team sport and teaches our children team work and camaraderie, these skills will be used throughout their lives.

Operating since: March 2002

Main activities: The Magpies play every Saturday in a Townsville competition called the Mini Colts, This year has been a real treat for the kids as for the majority of the kids have come from not knowing how to play, to playing very competitively within the competition. The Magpies train a Under 10's and a Under 12's and maybe if the interest is their a Under 14's next year. Training is held every Tuesday night at 4pm to 5.30pm at Horseshoe Bay Sports & Rec. Club. This is of course during the AFL season which runs from March to September.

Number of members: For the year 2002 we have 24 members with one team training and the team playing every Saturday.

Meetings held: The Magnetic Island Magpies Aussie Rules Club holds a committee meetings every month and a annual general meeting once a year. Our committee also attends a monthly meeting in town for the junior AFL association to keep in touch with up and coming events. This is usually attended by one or two of our committee members.

Wish list:
Parental and communal support for the kids eg: parents watch kids play, help with BBQ's, fundraising. Local businesses donate a football or trophy to the club. More kids from the island getting involved in sport with our preferred option being AFL, a great team game, a good way for kids to get fit and healthy and most of all have fun.
