Wind advice for ferry commuters

The harbour entrance this evening Sunferries are closely watching developments with the high winds generated by a low pressure system presently off Cairns.

Fleet Manager, Mr Phil Wilson told Magnetic Times, "We are basically running as normal this afternoon and tonight but it will be up to the skippers to decide whether they will go in (to Nelly Bay). They will however give us two runs (ferry trips) advance warning if they intend to stop."

If you are working in Townsville and plan to come home to Magnetic this evening Sunferries will keep you posted by advising the radio stations who will be providing further updates.

At present Phil Wilson is expecting that the winds, which are between 20 and 33 knots, will remain about the same at least until midnight.

"The lows haven't moved very much" he said.

What's the problem? They can always go into Picnic Bay! After all it has always had to be a pretty big blow to stop the service in the past. Certainly not 20+ knots from a low 600kms away. Once again some of us can say "I told you so" Harvey
