Rain rocks road
Following extensive late season rain since ANZAC day Magnetic Island's creeks are flowing again. But also headed in the downhill direction was a large boulder which slid onto the Horseshoe Bay hill road last night. The rock, which was estimated by one of the team organised by Citiworks as weighing about 25 tonnes had slid about 5 metres down onto the road. Fortunately it hadn't blocked the road to traffic and the Council staff were busy this morning directing vehicles around the boulder while specialists prepared to break the stone up into removable chunks by drilling holes to house an expanding grout which, instead of exploding, simply cracks the stone apart. Last night 30mls of rain was recorded at Nelly Bay compared to just 2mm in Townsville.
Since ANZAC day the Island has received 93mm of good soaking rain.
