Magnetic gets musical this weekend
This weekend sees a great community-based music attraction on Magnetic. On Saturday evening Muso's Club will present some special guest performers. Musos' Club Secretary Peter Jackson told magnetictimes.com, "We''ve got something guaranteed to be a little special this Musos. If it works well we expect to have more of it in future months and hopefully it will add a big dash of musical spice to our usual diet!"
That special something is an electro-pop duo from Townsville, who play by the name of Chinchy who are leaving the hot spots of Townsville and venturing across to Maggie to let you sample their wares.
Readers can sample more of Chinchy for themselves and even download an MP3 of their album, at http://www.chinchy.org
Peter Jackson said, "I'm listening to one track now. There's a great voice, nice sax and a funky rework of standard chord turn-arounds."
Peter Jackson is also keen to encourage locals to put their names down on the chalk board to sing, play or recite poetry but to get in early because Chinchy will fill up the end of the night so others will need to be squeezed in earlier on.
Locals and visitors are always welcome at MI Musos' Club where you can come and perform in front of an appreciateive audience or just be part of the audience. There are affordable curries and hot dogs, cakes and coffee for the whole family to enjoy.
Musos' Club occurs every second Saturday of the month at the MI RSL in Hayles Avenue Arcadia.
And then on Sunday 21st May....
Next Sunday week, between 11am and 4pm, Jazz will fill the air above the water lillies and beneath the trees at the Palm Plantation off Gifford Street in Horseshoe Bay.
Music will be provided by the sensational Counterpoint Jazz Quintet and The Andrew Dajski Quartet featuring local cabaret star Bernadette Smith.
Jazz lovers are advised to BYOG, picnic lunch, hat, sunblock, rug & picnic chairs or purchase snacks & drinks catered by Barefoot Art Food & Wine and Sandbar restaurants.
The Island bus meets the 10.30 am ferry from Breakwater Terminal and Townsville visitors will be bused back in time to meet the 4.45pm return ferry to town.
Unfortunately the venue is not suitable for children
Admission $10 ($8 members) and parking is available.
The admission will assist with fundraising for the Great Tropical Jazz Party Magnetic Island, 13 Oct -- 15 Oct, 2006) which is presented by the Magnetic Jazz Association.
