Tropical talent's "Kick ass" show this Saturday
Artworks by young Magnetic Island artists are to be hung throughout the refurbished accommodation rooms at the Hotel Arcadia. And, to celebrate the works and achievements of the creators from the Tropical Talent group who paint under the tutelage of Island artist Vonnie Van Bemmel, the works, which include 30 paintings, will be on show for one day only, this Saturday March 31 from 2pm to 5pm in the Conference Room at the Hotel. All are welcome. In her typically enthusiastic spirit, Vonnie told Magnetic Times, “It’s gonna be a kick ass show with spectacular huge works”.
The exhibition is part on the ongoing refurbishment project of the Hotel Arcadia, which will have 21 rooms ready for the Easter holidays and more work underway. They have hotel and motel style accommodation, catering especially to families and it will be in these rooms that the art will be hung.
Hotel owners Gary and Leslie McGill have provided all the paint and canvases for the young artists as well as a long term exposure to a travelling international audience with artist’s labels to be placed beside each artwork. But given the quality of work of the creators, who range in age from five to sixteen, it seems like a very good deal.
Working from the theme of "Magnetic Island" and utilising photographs as references. Vonnie told Magnetic Times, “I’m amazed at the talent that these young artists have developed over the years. Their works will wow you – come and be amazed”.
Vonnie takes after school classes for students in the school term and runs art workshops for youngsters, including visitors, in the school holidays. For more information call Vonnie on 47581299.
