Sera Jane: part of a changing Base
Sera Jane is a big Townsville singing talent with a film clip of her song “In My Town” now screening on Austar's Country Music Channel. And Sera is one of a number of musicians being lined up for what is evolving into a new Sunday session venue at Base backpackers in Nelly Bay. She will be performing there this Sunday.Sera describes her music as having “lots of rock and pop and part country”, although her albumn is more country in style. Having said that she then lists just how diverse that rock and pop actually gets. It stretches from Kieth Urban to AC/DC and includes a number of her and co-writer and duo-partner Geoff Warner's originals.
According to Base's Manager, Shane Dennis, “We want to develop a regular following with people on Magnetic Island and those coming over from Townsville for the afternoon”
If you hadn't noticed, Base is now a much more accessible place for locals to visit since their license changed to allow locals to now, “eat, drink, swim and play” as Shane Dennis puts it, from 10 am until midnight. As part of an upgrade in their facilities Base is soon to replace their furniture
We also hear that Base has a new menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner including an Island Burger and a must-try salmon stack but on Sundays they will also be running their $12 “All-you-can-eat Sunday barbeques” from 6pm until 8pm with Sera Jane playing from 4pm until 8pm sounds like a handy dinner option.
Over the next few month other musical outfits such as the Rocky Bay Band, Sara Shaw Quartet and Steve Hamley will be appearing and Shane Dennis is looking forward to the end of our Mango wind so that the summer Sunday sessions “should be perfect on our outer deck”.
