Magnetic Island's big cat mystery
Magnetic Island could be the home to a very large cat which has now been reported by four separate witnesses. As this is a matter of strong community interest we have put together links to the stories which have given rise to Magnetic's big cat mystery. The first account is from Italian visitor to Magnetic Island Sabrina Tessari who, in September 2011, witnessed a very strange sight from the porch of her cabin at Bungalow bay (Click here)
The next sighting was from long time Magnetic Island resident, Anne Sustrunck, who found an enormous feline in her carport when she arrived home in her car one evening late last year (Click here)
Since then we have heard some fascinating theories about how large some feral cats are growing. Townsville conservationist, Margaret Moorehouse provided this thought provoking letter (Click here)
Most recently, two sightings were made within a week during June 2012. These have resulted in Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service rangers setting up a large trap in Nelly bay. (Click here)
If you have any strange sightings of a very large cat on Magnetic or elsewhere let us know and of course, if you have a photo, we'd love to see it. You can call us on 0427398838.
