"Melding the abundant misunderstandings of a Shakespeare comedy with the New York wit of a Neil Simon play, 'City Island' is a boisterous charmer with a big heart," writes reviewer, Allan Hunter, and 'City Island' is this Saturday night's movie to be screened by the Magnetic Island Film Society at All Seasons hotel on Mandalay Ave in Nelly Bay.

The movie scored four stars each from David Startton and Margaret Pomeranz on ABC's At the Movies (click here).

Margaret wrote, "City Island is a part of New York City that not many people know about, a fact that Vince Rizzo - ANDY GARCIA - is pleased about. He's a prison guard, married to Joyce - JULIANNA MARGULIES - unaware that his daughter has lost her place in college and is now working in a strip joint and that his son is seriously into big women on the internet. 



"But there are a lot of secrets in this family, Vince hasn't told Joyce that he's taking acting lessons, supposedly he's having a poker night. She begins to think he's having an affair, but the relationship with fellow student Molly - EMILY MORTIMER - is purely platonic...

Nor has he told her that the young man that he sponsors out of prison is actually the son he fathered and abandoned before he met Joyce. He's Tony - STEVEN STRAIT...



"This completely delightful film is a notch above most family soaps, largely because of the fabulous performances, ANDY GARCIA is just wonderful as Vince and STEVEN STRAIT is worth watching, as Joyce will tell you. Writer/director Raymond de Felitta has crammed his film full of wild coincidences, side plots and misunder-standings, it's a gentle farce in many ways, but he manages to balance the myriad events with a wry, affectionate tone that is absolutely charming."
