Musos back in action this Saturday
Following an absolute cracker evening last month at the Arcadia Hotel, Maggie's Musos Club is set to return this Saturday night at 7.30pm.The last gig was an April shower of talent which fell with stirling performances from many quarters with more performers than could be fitted on the night Most notably, a duo, now known as Zoo Keno, who comprise Dave Sills, an electric cellist with a wonderful sound and enormous skill, alongside Trevor Nielson who I described last month as producing a, 'superb and emotionally charged set'. This month Zoo Keno return as do the Laymen who include Magnetic Island's saxiest chippie, Mark Carpenter and a great new Island saxist, Mal Stainkey. They cooked it up in April with some big fat brass notes as others like Sweet Thing, Mal Hamilton and Mark Hannan went reggae at the end of the night.
Don't the ladies love saxy Mark Carp
The sweet and very listenable voice of Firelight's Kelly Grech who is accompanied by Zoo Keno's Trevor Nielson will again be winning fans and a more familiar range of local stars including the irrepressible Marley who is, not surprisingly, even madder in a mask, and Sweet Thing, who still sound fresh and strong after a long break, will be back.
It's a great chance to get out and meet, drink and wiggle with locals and visitors. And it's all free admission at the Arcadia Pub where you can grab a very affordable dinner to dance your tummy off through the night.
Musos Club starts at 7.30pm and runs until 11.30pm.
