Planned burn program starts on Magnetic Island
The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting the first planned burn on Magnetic Island of the 2012 fire season this Thursday 17th May. This burn will take place in bushland behind properties in Horseshoe Bay, as part of the annual planned burn program for parks and forests.
As a result, smoke may be seen coming from the back of Horseshoe Bay on the Western side.
The aim of this low-intensity burn is to conserve an area of the locally rare Poplar Gum and Bloodwood woodland by creating favourable conditions for the regeneration of this vegetation community.
For more information, please call the Magnetic Island office of QPWS on 4778 5378.
