Magnetic Times is a community newspaper for Magnetic Island, Australia.
Right in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef, one of the natural wonders of the world, Magnetic Island is a popular holiday destination for many Australians and visitors to Australia. The island has abundant corals and ocean creatures, as well as protected Koala sanctuaries and diverse fauna.
Located in North Queensland, the climate is classified as "tropical" and even though it does not rain often the pouring that occurs almost every year supports dense vegetation.
As a holiday destination Magnetic Island is tranquil and safe with many Australian families choosing to holiday here. There are also numerous exciting backpacker places to stay at, which attract a high number of foreign visitors. Despite the small permanent population of 2000 people the island offers many interesting types of activities, some of which have been awarded prestegious tourism awards.
Magnetic Island is governed by Townsville City Counsil but islanders consider them selves residents of Magnetic Island rather than the city of Townsville.
The home of Australia's most generous donors (Australiast Biggest Morning Tea) and self appointed protectors of the environment (as well as some professional ones) Magnetic Island is a welcoming little island and a "must visit" for any passing traveller.
